What is Ischemic Heart Disease? |
There are two types Ischemic Heart Disease; one being Ischemic Heart Disease and the other Silent Ischemic Heart Disease. Ischemic Heart Disease is when the two main arteries that circle around the heart are narrowed and the blood and oxygen can’t get to the heart. This is also called Coronary Artery and Coronary Heart Disease. This can lead to a heart attack. This type of heart attack is called a myocardial infarction. It often causes severe chest pain and you know that you are having a heart attack. Men blow the age of 55 have a death rate of 35%. After the age of 55 the average men having these types of heart attacks seem to be tapering off while women age 55 and up seem to be gaining in percentages for have myocardial infarction. Over 4 million people in the United States never have a chest pain or never feel a heart attack coming on. This is what is called Silent Ischemic Heart Disease. These people almost always go undiagnosed. Those that have had a heart attack previously, or have diabetes are likely to have or develop Silent Ischemic Heart Disease. Unless tested they don’t know they have the disease either. |
