What is a Silent Heart Attack?

Silent ischemia or a silent heart attack keeps blood and oxygen from getting to a part of the heart. The silent heart attack is just about always caused by atherosclerosis, (when plaque builds up in the arteries.) In 30 percent of all silent heart attack patients has absolutely no warning.

About 25% of silent heart attacks go unnoticed until tested. If you are a man over 50 that smokes, or a woman over 45 or if you are diabetic, if heart disease runs in your family, by all means get tested.

Just a simple blood test can tell your doctor if you are diabetic, or have high cholesterol. He will also check your blood pressure.

These are simple tests that your doctor can run that may just save your life.
