What is Abnormal Heart Disease ?

Abnormal heart rhythm is medically known as arrhythmia and affects millions of Americans. The normal heart rate lies somewhere in between 50 and 100 beats per minutes. Anything out side of that range is considered irregular. There are two forms of arrhythmia which are that of a faster than normal heart rate, known as tachyarrhythmia, and that of a slower than normal heart rate which is known as bradyarrhythmia. Along with the different forms of arrhythmias, there are several different types.

Of the several different types there are premature atrial contractions which are extra, early heartbeats which occur in the atria of the heart and are completely harmless, then there are premature ventricular contractions which are the most common type.

These types can be relate to stress or too much caffeine and are harmless in most people, but those experiencing these should still see their doctor for a heart workup. Two other common forms of arrhythmia are atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. Atrial flutter, which is common in those with heart disease, often turns into atrial fibrillation.

Arrhythmias can be caused by many different things including chemical imbalances, coronary artery disease, a heart attack, and heart surgery. There are many other different types of heart arrhythmias, so it is important for anyone experiencing a heart arrhythmia to see their doctor to find out which type they have and how it can be treated.
