What is Cardiac Catheterization?

Cardiac Catheterization is a procedure that might be recommended by the physician to check for some types of cardiovascular conditions. This type of procedure is often done when there is a suspected blockage in the arteries that could lead to a heart attack.

The catheterization is done by inserting a long thin tube into an artery or vein in the groin area, neck or arm, and it is then threaded through the blood vessels to the heart muscle.
In some cases of heart disease there are procedures done called angioplasty in which the same process is used.

This catheterization treatment is one that can be used to correct a problem in the arteries or to see if there is a problem or the beginning of narrowed arteries from plaque, and this is one of the treatments that is used with success in treating these types of heart conditions.
