Congenital Heart Disease affects the way the heart sends the blood through the body and back to the heart again. This is actually a defect that you are born with. These defects are found in the veins, arteries, heart valves or the interior wall of the heart.

This defect is the most common defect found in newborns. It affects 8 babies out of each thousand. Every year 35,000 babies are born with Congenital Heart Disease.

These birth defects vary. Some defects never bother the baby through adulthood, while other defects are severe and life threatening. Although some are born with these life threatening defects, sometimes even open heart surgery is performed; but yet they manage to grow up and be rather healthy adults.

They still have to be careful and take medications and regular doctors visits. These types of adults have to very careful when trying to conceive, the type of conception they use and to ensure that they stay healthy and avoid infections when going through routine health procedures.

It also affects the ability to buy health, medical insurance and type of employment.
