What are the Symptoms of Congenital Heart Disease?

Congenital heart diseases are the heart disease which comes by birth. There are many different types of congenital heart defects. They range from simple defects with no symptoms to complex defects with severe, life-threatening symptoms.

Congenital heart disease is responsible for more deaths in the first year of life than any other birth defects. Some congenital heart diseases can be treated with medication alone, while others require one or more surgeries. Symptoms depend on the specific condition. Some babies and children may experience symptoms while others may not.

Common types of congenital heart disease include heart muscle abnormalities, heart wall defects and heart valve defects, which inhibit or prevent forward blood flow or leaky valves which allow blood to leak backward. The symptoms vary from the adults to the child. Symptoms of congenital heart disease in adults include shortness of breath and a limited ability to breathe.
