Does Diabetes Affect Heart Disease?

There is a positive correlation between diabetes and the chances of getting a heart attack up-to 200% which implies that a diabetic person has double the risk of getting a heart attack than a non diabetic person. The risk is worst with people who have suffered from a heart attack and also have diabetes. In fact, people with type 2 diabetes are more likely to get a second heart attack in their middle age than people without it.

A person who is a diabetic may die when he/she gets a heart attack. The high amount of glucose levels present in diabetes can result in huge accumulation of fats inside the walls of blood vessels. These deposits slow down the rate of blood flow resulting in clogging of the blood vessels. In fact, the arteries get damaged due to the presence of higher than average blood sugar.

People with diabetes get strokes earlier than people who don't have diabetes. If you don’t get the levels of your blood sugar checked in spite of having diabetes, then you might die of a silent heart attack. Diabetics do not feel any kind of a sensation in the body known as nerve damage.
