Facts About Angina |
Angina, which is medically known as angina pectoris, but more commonly known as just chest pain. Angina is the single most common symptom of coronary artery syndrome which is a heart disease caused by clogged arteries in the heart. Many people with angina often confuse their symptoms with indigestion as it shares many of the symptoms. Angina is obviously marked by chest pain, but also can come with other symptoms such as pressure, aching, burning, and fullness. Although angina is most commonly felt in the chest, it can also be felt in back, jaw, arms, and shoulders. Those who have these symptoms and have had heart problems in the past should seek medical care immediately. Those who have no medical history can either seek medical care or if they wish, note the pain, and tell their physician at their next checkup. There are three types of angina which include stable angina which occurs during physical exertion or stress and is predictable, unstable angina which is often more painful than stable angina and often is a sign of a heart attack. Unstable angina can occur in either a restful state or during physical exertion. Prinzmetal's angina occurs in a restful state or when the person is exposed to cold temperatures occurs close to an arterial blockage. This type of angina almost only occurs in those with coronary artery disease.
