Why are Flu Shots Important For Heart Disease Patients?

Flu season can be a dangerous time for the person that has heart disease and this is an illness that affects heart disease patients more than people that are suffering from other chronic conditions. The flu shot can greatly reduce the risk of getting influenza and it can also reduce the risk of complications with heart disease.

When yearly warnings come out for influenza shots there are several groups mentioned that it is recommended for them to be given an injection. These groups are the elderly, people that have chronic illnesses and heart disease patients.

This is because annually there are as many as 36,000 deaths from influenza in the United States alone, and approximately 200,000 people end up in the hospital or emergency room for treatment for the flu. This means that the influenza season is a dangerous time of year for a heart disease patient unless they have been injected with a flu shot.
