What causes Heart Infections?

Heart infections can be caused by a variety of reasons. In this article, we shall give you a brief idea. For instance, heart infection can be caused by a bacterium, a fungus, a virus, or even a parasite. An infection in the heart can be isolated within a single layer, or it can also affect all layers simultaneously.
A common cause for heart infection is rheumatic fever, which is a disease triggered by a specific type of streptococcus (Group A) bacteria. The interaction between the bacteria’s toxins (antigens) and the body’s natural defensive substances (antibodies) combine to produce this reactive fever in some people. Rheumatic fever is usually preceded by throat infection, fever, painful swollen joint, and skin rashes.

Now pericarditis can be caused, similarly by virus, bacteria, parasite, or fungus, but it can also be the result of an allergic reaction o certain drugs, or even a penetrating injury to the heart. It can develop due to a severe heart attack, or might even be caused by immunologic reaction after a heart surgery.
