What Does a Lipid Panel Tell The Doctor?

The lipid panel or cholesterol test can measure cholesterol, and this includes four types of fats in the body. The first is high density lipoprotein, better known as HDL cholesterol, which is referred to as the good cholesterol. Then the test will show the low density lipoprotein, which is known as LDL cholesterol or the bad cholesterol that is able to clog arteries.

This lipid panel will also show the triglycerides level and this is another type of fat that is found in the blood. High triglycerides levels show that the person is eating more calories than what they are burning through exercise the body.

 There are some groups of people that have high triglycerides such as diabetics are a group that it is not unusual to see high levels, there are people that consume large amounts of alcohol and people that are overweight.
