What is Metabolic Syndrome?

Metabolic syndrome is a multiple of several conditions that all can contribute to heart disease; this can include things like high blood pressure, excess body fat located on the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels. Another condition that can also be present when the patient is a diabetic is elevated insulin levels.

There must be more than one of the contributing factors present for the condition to be considered metabolic syndrome. This syndrome can be considered a serious diagnoses and a risk of serious heart disease, and when the many of the different contributing factors are present this can mean a higher risk for heart disease.

When these symptoms begin to appear a change in lifestyle, including eating and exercising habits can delay or even prevent the development of heart disease. This is also something that may require medication prescribed by a physician for treatment of high blood pressure, high cholesterol or evaluated insulin levels.
