What is Plaque Buildup in the Heart? |
Plaques are nothing but a tissue like semi liquid substance that is developed in the arteries that are attached to the heart. An artery is the base of the circulatory system. It helps in transpiration of blood from the heart of other parts of the human body. Arteries are small, smooth and unobstructed channels through which the blood flow is made possible and easy. But due to certain factors like aging, there develops a small sticky substance over the inner side of the artery walls. This can be dangerous since they can easily affect the flow of the blood to the organs as they can create a block at various places. Due to the blocks, blood will not be able to reach the necessary region in the necessary amount and this can lead to serious problems. Though the major factor for formation of plaque is aging, other external factors like smoking can increase the risk of forming more plaque very easily and sooner. Poor diet is also one major cause. If the plaque is formed in the corona region of the heart, it is called as coronary artery disease, which blocks the flow of the oxygenated blood within the heart and can be potential.
