What Is Tachycardia? |
Tachycardia is a condition characterized by the abnormally fast beating of the heart. A healthy adult experiences regular heart beats at the rate of 60-100 beats per minute. However, in case of the person suffering from Tachycardia, the heart beat rate exceeds much higher than 100 beats per minute. This condition does not normally impose a threat to life. However, in some adverse cases, if this condition is left unattended by a doctor, it can lead to serious heart attacks. Two main categories of this condition have been discovered so far- Ventricular Tachycardia, also known as V-Tach and Supraventricular Tachycardia. In Ventricular Tachycardia, the ventricles of the heart beat unusually fast that result into ineffective blood pumping. A patient suffering from this disorder can be cured with a shock treatment in order to re-start the normal heart beat pattern. In Supraventricular Tachycardia, the upper portion of the heart that lies straight above the ventricles, experience rapid beatings. In most of the cases, this condition lasts for about few seconds after which the heart resumes its normal beating pattern. However, in case this condition refuses to budge for hours, the patient may suffer from a deadly heart attack. Such a condition then requires immediate medical intervention. |
