What is Variant Angina?

Variant Angina is spasms in the coronary arteries called vasospasm. These spasms reduce blood flow to the heart called angina.

The spasms usually occur when a person is resting or can even occur during an activity.

Variant Angina is different in that way and can also be caused from even when a person does or does not have clogged arteries from atherosclerosis.

Every time someone has a spasm it causes less blood flow to the heart. The spasms cause pain and a greater risk of a heart attack.

These spasms can occur when they are resting, or doing some type of physical activity, it doesn’t have to strenuous activity. Stress can also bring about these causes.

Chest pain, shortness of breath and heart palpitations
