Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart where the heart muscle, also known as myocardium become abnormally thick, and this can also be referred to as hypertrophied. The heart muscle that is thickened can cause serious problems, as it can make it difficult for the heart muscle to pump blood. There can be other problems that are serious with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, as it can affect the heart’s electrical system. There are very few symptoms with this type of heart condition, and because of this often goes undiagnosed. The symptoms that are found in some people with this type of heart disease can be things like shortness of breath, and problems in the heart’s electrical system that can cause abnormal heart rhythms, which are known as arrhythmias. While this can be a serious heart condition, for many people that do not show signs it often is a condition that causes no significant health problems and the effected person can live a normal life.
