What Does Obesity Have to do with Heart Disease?

As you might have expected, there is a high link between obesity and heart attack. Obesity can determine the restriction of arteries in a person which is the most common cause of heart attacks. In fact, a minimal increase in the body mass index of a person increases his chances of getting a heart attack. The risk of heart attack was found to be 50% higher in women with a BMI of less than 25 but more than 23. These chances are even higher in men who have a BMI of less than 29. Well, this correlation between obesity and heart disease is less for certain races like Pima Indians, African American and Hispanics. Obesity can cause the heart to become weak because it starts over working because of high blood pressure.

The hypertrophy of left ventricle in the heart that its failure is most common in people who suffer from obesity. This can be more severe if the said person suffers from hypertension. But, chances of its occurrence are high in the absence of hypertension also. Hypertension is more in people with a higher than normal weight. So, they have a higher risk of falling prey to heart attacks. Blood circulation is adversely affected because of obesity.
